passthejoe — the blog

Welcome to my channel blog

This is Steven Rosenberg’s website. There’s plenty of Linux and OpenBSD content because that’s a lot of what I do for “fun.” I’ve taken tons of notes in the past year on my “adventures” in figuring out OpenBSD, Fedora, AlmaLinux, the Oracle Cloud Free Tier, Raspberry Pi and GoToSocial, and I’d like to share it.

As of September 3, 2024, this site “returned” to Hugo, though it kind of never left. I have kept a Hugo blog running, though in the past year or more I have been writing in a number of different places, especially the Fediverse, where I probably post more than is good for me.

I am considering other static-site generators, but since I found a Hugo theme that doesn’t return a mess of errors when I build the site, I will likely stick with it.

More blogging! That’s my goal. Self-hosting is another one. Right now, this site is coming to you from a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B in our coat closet.

As the developer of this Hugo theme Jan Raasch says:

Simply publish content online, grow an audience, and keep your pages tiny, fast, and optimized for search engines.

Each page is ~5kb, and you can host your blog yourself.

I don’t care that much about search engines, but I’m very much in favor of hosting your own.
